and the year begins again...

Now that October hit it truly feels like summer is over and life is back in full gear. Looking back at our summer vacation we can only smile and enjoy our great memories of our trip to visit California!
The kids still talk about it and are already planning what to do (and where to eat) next year :-)
We came to the US for a month, and still it felt too short! We are very thankful to have so much vacation, because when we lived in America, Will had about 2 weeks a year, now he can't believe he has about 6 weeks. His boss told him that he had about two weeks left because he worked overtime throughout the year, and he MUST take it before the year is up :-) How funny, having too much vacation you have to cram it in your schedule.

School started and the kids are doing very well! Time goes so fast, I can not believe the kids are in 2nd and 4th grade already!
Chloes after school activities consist of dance, dance and dance. When they were younger I put them in every activity you can imagine, but now she is getting to the age where she can understand the difference between an activity or doing something she loves. She absolutely loves dancing and is dancing about 5 hours a week right now. She tried out for the competition team and made it, so she was super happy about that! I was a nervous wreck when she went in with her number on her chest (felt like a reality show "so you think you can dance" moment) but not her, she told me dancing was in her blood so don't worry, she'll make it. The world just turned upside down and the child calms the parent :-)
Lainey is still searching her passion. She also dances two hours a week, and joined ice skating. She will figure out what she is passionate about in a few years.
One thing I am excited about is that I got the kids involved in running! I always wanted them to reach the age where we could go running together as a family, and now we finally can manage a run together. Of course nobody likes running in the beginning, so I had to bribe them with buying them both an Ipod shuffle before they would even consider the idea :-)
We started about 10 weeks ago with weekly runs, and two weeks ago we got them registered in their first real running race. It was a big running event here in town-about 10,000 runners. Lainey finished the 3Km (almost 2miles) and Chloe ran the 5Km (just over 3 miles). They did really well, and we were so proud of them, because 10 weeks ago Lainey couldn't run more then 2 minutes without walking! They surprised us with their determination!. What an Ipod shuffle can do right ;-)
I decided to make a statement that anything is possible and decided last minute to run ALL the distances (1K, 3K, 5K, 10K, 15K). The challenge was that I couldn't just run as slow as I wanted to, because the next race was starting at the scheduled time! But I did it and it was great. Even though it was cold and it rained, the atmosphere was super! They even did a write up in the paper about it. Will also ran the 3K, 5K, and 15K. He finished his 15K in 1h09 minutes (after already running the 3K and 5K). They don't call him Speedy Gonzalez for nothing!
Our next challenge is the Florence full marathon at the end of November! Why should we EVER run a marathon without attaching it to a weekend getaway!

Both kids had their birthdays last month. Chloe thinks she is a teenager now that she got a cell phone for her 9th birthday. Lainey was really specific in her request for her present, she wanted money to put in her bank account so she can grow enough interest to buy herself a blue Nintendo DX3. Hey, we have taught them to know what they want in life, be specific, have a plan and follow through! We can't help it if our children actually listen!

Will and I both had a long weekend trip away. I went to Rimini, Italy to work at the Anthony Robbins seminar with all my friends. It was super inspiring as always, and it was so wonderful to see all the crew again since the event we did in Rome last year. We worked hard, but had a blast as well!
Will went to visit some friends in Poland and ran a race there. A typical Will moment I just have to share. He trained for the half marathon he was going to run in Poland. The day of the race I get a text from Will stating: "just registered and found out there is no half marathon, only a FULL marathon!" So he struggled through it and finished the marathon without training more than a 10 mile run!
He had a great trip and really likes Poland!

I promise not to wait this long again to write, this is actually one of my goals for this year. When you are a mom, the year starts when school starts and the year ends when summer starts, so our new years resolutions follow accordingly (hence the title:-). So minimum one time a month. Hold me to it people!!

Little child of mine say what?
Chloe: "I think mutti(grama) is prettier now then in her younger pics".
Lesley: "Our family ages well, when I was little I was not very pretty and very much a Tom boy, and aunt Bipa and bompa(grampa) too, we were all not very attractive, but as we grew older we turned out looking good, that runs in our family"
Chloe: "Wooow, then I'm gonna be HOT!!!"

Will and I are playing a guessing game with the kids on the train (filled with people). The word I am trying for them to guess is high heels. I started the description by saying: "it is something that in our family only mommy has" and all of a sudden Lainey belts out at the top of her lungs :"HER PERIOD!!!"

That's it for now folks,
Until next time,
